The Cordova community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jaxson E. Worthington, a 14-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short in a crash Monday night in Orangeburg County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 9 p.m. on Cannon Bridge Road near Riley Road. Troopers said Jaxson was riding his bicycle when it collided with a 2001 Honda sedan. Investigators reported that the teen was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Cannon Bridge Road while the Honda was traveling southbound, leading to the deadly impact.
Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle confirmed that Jaxson, of Cordova, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Honda was not injured.
Jaxson’s sudden passing has left family, friends, classmates, and the entire community devastated. At only 14 years old, he had so much life ahead of him—dreams to chase, milestones to reach, and memories still waiting to be made. His death is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly everything can change.
