Authorities have released an arrest update following a fatal shooting that occurred on May 2 in the 14200 block of Texarkana in the Cloverleaf area of Harris County.

The deceased victim has been identified as 39-year-old Yanira Nafin. According to investigators, Yanira was allegedly shot by her common-law husband, Jose Arquimides Romero (born 1/8/1983).
Deputies reported that the incident stemmed from a domestic situation, with officials stating Romero became upset because he believed Yanira was not taking his back pain seriously enough.
At the time of the shooting, three children were inside the home. Authorities confirmed the children were able to hide after hearing gunfire and were not physically harmed during the incident.
Following the shooting, Romero remained at the residence and was taken into custody without incident by responding deputies.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives subsequently charged Romero in connection with the death of Yanira Nafin. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, where he remains pending further legal proceedings.
