The Medford, Wisconsin, community is mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of 21-year-old Austin D. Olson, who lost his life in a tragic incident in the Township of Little Black on April 28, 2026.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:49 p.m. to a residence on County Road E after reports of an emergency. When first responders arrived, they found Olson unresponsive in the yard. Despite efforts at the scene, he was later pronounced deceased.

Following the initial response, investigators took a 19-year-old man into custody on April 29, later identified as Brent M. Porter of Marshfield, Wisconsin. He was initially charged with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated and released after posting bond. However, after further investigation, authorities re-arrested Porter and upgraded the charge to first-degree reckless homicide, and he was transported to the Taylor County Jail.
