The community of Shabbona, Illinois, is mourning the death of Ryan Todd, 28, who passed away on April 25, 2026, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.

Born December 4, 1997, in DeKalb, Ryan was the son of Dave Todd and Dena Heilbrun. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Kishwaukee College, but honestly, his personality probably made a bigger impression than any diploma. He was the kind of person who could turn a normal day into a full-on sports debate, armed with stats and opinions, especially when Chicago teams were involved.
Ryan’s life centered around people. Throwing darts, joking around, listening to music, and just being present. Monica Loy captured that side of him best, remembering the playful arguments, the laughs, and the simple moments that ended up meaning the most. She described missing his “playful joking self,” which says everything without trying too hard.
He is survived by his parents, Dave (Denise) Todd and Dena (Greg) Hill; his siblings; niece; nephews; and a wide circle of family and friends who now feel the weight of his absence. A celebration of life will be held on July 11, 2026, at Indian Oaks Country Club in Shabbona. Ryan Todd will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and the way he made ordinary moments feel worth showing up for.
