SANTA ANA, Calif. — A homicide investigation is underway in Orange County after a man was found shot to death in broad daylight, prompting a large police response and the closure of several streets in a residential neighborhood.

Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department were called around 12:30 p.m. to the intersection of Third Street and Daisy Avenue in the city’s Artesia Pilar neighborhood following reports of gunfire, according to authorities.

When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was later identified as 58-year-old John Albert Guillen.

Emergency personnel with the Orange County Fire Authority attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Guillen was pronounced dead on site.

Footage shared on the Citizen app showed a heavy police presence in the area, with multiple streets blocked off by yellow crime scene tape as investigators worked to secure and process the scene. A black canopy was also visible covering the victim in the middle of the intersection before officers restricted public view with patrol vehicles.

Preliminary information from police suggests the victim was entering his vehicle at the time of the shooting. Investigators also stated the incident is believed to be gang-related, though the investigation is still ongoing.

Authorities initially reported that the victim had been shot in the head and confirmed that the suspect remained at large. Residents were urged to avoid the area while detectives worked the scene, which was later cleared around 7 p.m.

No suspect description has been released at this time. Detectives are continuing to identify witnesses and gather information that may help lead to an arrest.
