According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 10:10 a.m. on April 28, near mile marker 306. Investigators said a Freightliner traveling northbound failed to control its speed and collided with the rear trailer of another semi-truck that was in the process of turning onto a private road.
The impact was violent and immediate. The Freightliner became fully engulfed in flames, turning a routine stretch of highway into a scene of destruction and heartbreak. Despite emergency response efforts, Adrian Ortiz Cano was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other truck was not injured.
