Gardner, who passed away peacefully on April 2026 following complications from a stroke at his assisted care home. Born on February 29, 1952, in Monroe to Colonel James and Donna Gardner, Brad’s life was marked by dedication, service, and an enduring commitment to his loved ones.
Bradley Gardner, fondly known as Brad, was preceded in death by his father and leaves behind a legacy of love, mentorship, and professional achievement. He is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie, and her three children, six grandchildren, his mother, Donna, of Phoenix, Arizona, his brother Mike (Marlene) Gardner of Nisswa, Minnesota, and his sisters Cindy (Jim) Piasecki of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Liza (John) Sargent of Conroe, Texas. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who admired his generosity and warmth.
Brad’s early life reflected both determination and passion. After graduating from Brainerd High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he played football under Coach Jim Malosky, excelling both on the field and academically. His pursuit of law led him to William Mitchell College of Law, from which he earned his degree and went on to become a respected legal professional.
Returning to Brainerd, Brad joined the Borden Steinbauer law firm as a partner and also served as Assistant Crow Wing County Attorney. His work ethic, intelligence, and unwavering sense of integrity quickly earned him respect within the legal community. Later, his love for warmer climates brought him to Arizona, where he became a partner at Udall Shumway Law Firm. Despite his career being cut short by Alzheimer’s disease, Brad remained a strong and resilient spirit, continuing to inspire colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of his professional life, Brad was deeply passionate about animals and nature. Throughout his life, he shared his home with a variety of beloved companions, including dogs, ferrets, chickens, a macaw, and even Terrance the tortoise. In his final years, he found peace and joy in the simple pleasures, particularly enjoying the tranquil beauty of Puerto Vallarta’s beaches.
Brad was a devout Christian whose life reflected faith, kindness, and generosity. Friends and family remember him for his warmth, humor, and unwavering support for those around him. Above all, Brad took great pride in his family, cherishing time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and fostering strong bonds with loved ones that will endure for generations.
A private service in honor of Bradley D. Gardner will be held on May 2 in Mesa, Arizona. Those who knew him will remember a man whose life embodied dedication, compassion, and the pursuit of meaningful relationships. Brad Gardner leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and integrity, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
