Authorities in Evanston and Skokie have announced that a second suspect has been charged in connection with the Howard Street shooting investigation that left one person injured earlier this year. The incident, which occurred near Howard Street and Custer Avenue in Evanston, continues to draw attention across neighboring communities, including Skokie, as police pursue additional leads in the ongoing case.

According to the City of Evanston Police Department, detectives recently arrested 19-year-old Cajmere T. Lemond in connection with the April 21 shooting incident.

Police said officers initially responded around 6:08 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Howard Street. Investigators later discovered evidence of gunfire inside a local business, while a victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds was located near Main Street and Elmwood Avenue. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities stated that detectives reviewed surveillance footage, witness statements, and physical evidence as part of the investigation. During the arrest, investigators reportedly recovered two loaded firearms from a backpack in Lemond’s possession, including a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and an AA Arms P-9 handgun, both equipped with extended magazines. One firearm had reportedly been listed as stolen from Ohio.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple felony charges, including aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and mob action. Lemond appeared at the Skokie Courthouse, where a judge ordered him detained pending trial.
