A devastating head-on collision in Spartanburg County early Friday morning left five people dead, including a Greenville police sergeant, and critically injured another officer, according to authorities.

The crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Bellview Road extension, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. Investigators reported that a 2025 Ford SUV traveling north and a 2016 Toyota SUV traveling south collided head-on, resulting in catastrophic damage.
Greenville Police confirmed that Sgt. AshlMuñoz,oz, an 11-year veteran of the department, was killed in the crash. Munoz had been promoted to sergeant in 2023 and supervised multiple units within the Criminal Investigations Division, including Property Crimes, Financial Crimes, and Family Crimes.
Her spouse, Sgt. Diana Munoz, a more than 12-year veteran of the department and the agency’s Public Information Officer, was airlifted to a nearby hospital and remained in critical condition. She had been promoted to sergeant in 2022. Officials said the couple was returning home from vacation at the time of the crash and are the parents of two young children.
Authorities said a total of five people were killed in the collision. In the Ford SUV, the driver and passenger were identified as 50-year-old Deborah Sue Wyatt and 46-year-old Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., both of Duncan. Deborah Wyatt died at the scene, while Max Wyatt later died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Sgt. Ashley Munoz, 35, of Woodruff, was among the three fatalities in the Toyota SUV. The identities of the remaining two victims in that vehicle have not yet been released pending family notification.
Officials said the crash remains under active investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A memorial honoring Sgt. Ashley Munoz has been established at the City of Greenville Public Safety Campus at 204 Halton Road, where members of the public are invited to pay their respects and support the Munoz family and the Greenville Police Department during this tragic time.
