A 25-year-old Augusta woman, Khyla Rodriguez, was found shot and killed early Friday morning on Cameron Drive in Augusta.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified Rodriguez as the victim in the shooting.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 3600 block of Cameron Drive around 1:11 a.m. for a report of a suspicious situation. While on scene, deputies spoke with a complainant who stated they had received a call from an unknown person claiming their friend was dead at the location.
Deputies then searched the area and located Rodriguez on the ground unresponsive near a residence. Authorities said she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach area.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office confirmed Rodriguez was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.
As of approximately 4:15 a.m., deputies and crime scene investigators remained on scene processing evidence and continuing the investigation. Officials have not released additional details, and no suspect or motive has been announced at this time.
